Flower Remedies: The Natural Healing Power of Plants

Throughout the years, there have been several alternative remedies that have earned the scrutiny of the public and the medical community. One such alternative method is flower remedies. Developed by Edward Bach in the 1930’s, flower remedies are all-natural potions or remedies derived from boiled or ground up flower material.

In this alternative healing method, certain flowers are picked according to their characteristics to treat particular illnesses or maladies. Some of the most commonly treated illnesses include depression, anxiety, insomnia and stress. Once the right flower has been chosen, a very small amount of the flower material is combined with water and brandy to create an oral solution that tastes nothing like the flower being used for treatment.

As you can imagine, flower remedies have been heavily scrutinized by the medical and scientific community. Many feel like the minute amount of flower used in flower remedies cannot possibly bring about any type of healing or relief. Others feel that flower remedies are nothing more than placebos manufactured with the intent of making patients “believe” that they feel better. Regardless of how the scientific and medical community view flower remedies, there can be no doubt that many are gaining relief from their illnesses with the help of flower remedies. This is evident by the fact that the use of flower remedies has survived to this modern age and that many people still use flower remedies to cure whatever ails them.

Modern Use of Flower Remedies

As mentioned before, the use of flower remedies is still alive and well in this modern age. In fact, there are several companies that make and produce flower remedies, and you can purchase them at almost any alternative medicine store or general nutrition store.

There are also several practitioners that prescribe flower remedies to their patients. One of the most commonly prescribed flower remedies is used to treat stress, anxiety and panic attacks. It is called Rescue Remedy or Five Flower Remedy and contains equal parts of the following: Rock Rose, Impatiens, Clematis, Star of Bethlehem and Cherry Plum. The above ingredients are also combined with Crab Apple to create an external cream that is used to treat a wide range of skin problems including burns, bee stings, cuts, abrasions and acne.
