Brow Lift Surgery

A Brow lift is a cosmetic procedure used to lift the forehead and raise the upper eye lids. This will also help to reduce crease and frown lines.   A brow lift can give you a slightly younger and refreshed look; however as with all cosmetic surgery it is important to keep your expectations realistic. There are two main types of brow lift surgery,  open or endoscopic.

Open Brow Lift Procedure

When the open procedure is used to lift the brow,  an incision is made along the hair line from ear to ear, or across the top of the scalp. This gives the plastic surgeon the flexibility to  remove more  of the tissue and shorten the muscles, it  also allows  a lot of excess skin to be removed.

Endoscopic Brow Lift Procedure

The Endoscopic procedure involves making 4 small incisions just behind the hair line, of the two brow lift procedures it is the less evasive and there is less scarring, however, it is slightly more restricting. A small flexible tube with a camera at the end (an endoscope) is inserted into the incisions to enable the plastic surgeon to see the tissue and muscle beneath the skin. Some of this tissue and muscle may be removed along with any excess fatty tissue and then the incisions are closed together horizontally in order to give additional lift. This is either done with stitches or clips.

Brow Lift General Information

A brow lift usually takes between 1 and 2 hours and can be done with a local anaesthetic as an outpatient or with a general anaesthetic which will, as with most cosmetic procedures, involve a one day stay in hospital.

After brow lift surgery it is normal to have bruising and swelling which will subside after a couple of weeks. The stitches or clips are removed 7-10 days after surgery and the scar will start to fade and become almost invisible after 6 months. It is normal to feel some numbness in the area after this surgery. It is important to point out that a brow lift does not change the skin on the forehead other than tighten it up so any other brown spots, scars etc will still remain after surgery.

Although uncommon some of the risks involves in this type of cosmetic procedure is permanent numbness, nerve damage, infection and excess scarring or bleeding. Your cosmetic surgeon should point these risks out to you, together with any other risks that they feel are appropriate.

Cost of brow lift Surgery

The approximate cost of a brow lift is £4,000.00 to £4,500.00 but this will vary according to the procedure, the surgeon and the cosmetic clinic or hospital.
