Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)

Nose reshaping or rhinoplasty to give it its correct name, is the second most popular surgery after breast enlargement surgery. It is used to change to look of the nose and can take away features that you may not like about your nose. A nose that is more aesthetically pleasing can boost your confidence.

Nose reshaping can help if your nose is out of proportion with your face, if it has a bump on the bridge, if the nostrils flare out too much or the tip of the nose is upturned. It can also help after an injury that may have left the nose asymmetrical. In fact cosmetic nose surgery can correct most nose imperfections.

Nose Surgery General Information

Nose surgery involves working on the bone and cartilage to reduce or build up in order to reshape the nose. It is done by making small incisions on the inside of the nose. Prior to surgery, you would have a consultation with a surgeon who would be able to advise you if you were a suitable candidate for the surgery, they would also advise you if your expectations could be met.

Once a decision has been made to go ahead you would normally have the operation under general anaesthetic and have to remain in hospital for one night. The operation time varies depending on how much work the surgeon has to do. Recovery time will also vary but at the outset you would expect bruising and swelling around the eyes and cheeks which will gradually go down and fade. It could take several months for all the swelling to go down but the results should be seen within the first few weeks after surgery.

Risks involved are the same as with all operations involving general anaesthetic, there is a very slight risk of adverse reaction to the medication, bleeding and breathing difficulties. Particular risks for nose surgery include nose infections, a temporary loss or reduction in sensitivity to smell or a slight reddening of the skin. It is rare to have these side affects but important for you to be aware of them. Nose surgery will last a life time and any changes will usually only be as a result of the normal ageing process.

Cost of Nose Reshaping Surgery

You can expect to pay between £3,200 to £4,000 for this type of surgery, although of course this does vary depending on how much work is involved, the individual surgeon and the individual hospital.
