Foundation

Foundation is one of the most important parts of our make up regime, with the excellent products on the market today it is possible to acheive a flawless complexion. If we are honest it is probably the one thing most of us could not do without.

Product development has given us foundation that not only covers the skin effectively but has ingredients that help repair the skin, they have ingredients that mirror the multi pigmentation of the skin giving a natural glow without the heavy mask feel.

The key to good foundaton is not to put it on too heavilly, a light even coverage gives a fresher younger look. In older women heavy make up can collect in lines and make the skin look older. Put a light coat of foundation on the skin then use a brush to lightly powder over the foundation to ensure it lasts longer and avoids shine.

So what shade should you choose? Don't get confused with the vast array of shades, choose a brand you are used to. Some colours can change colour once they are applied to the skin so the best approach is to try three shades that you think match the tone of your skin and rub a little of each down your jaw line. Wait 10 minutes then check out the result in natural daylight. Most decent department stores will help you with this, after all most decent foundations do not come cheap so you don't want to make a mistake.  You can always add more glow to your look with blushers or bronzers.

Different types of foundation suit different skin  from the very light tinted moisturiser which will suit dry skin, to mineral make ups that suit oily skin. You can get oil free foundation for combination or oily skin or cream foundation  for dryer skin. You want to feel really natural so experiment to find the type that suits you best.

Other foundations protect from the sun and have sun protection factors, some contain  wrinkle firming ingrediants, others have skin illuminators, there are so many you are spoiled for choice.

You may prefer to use a different foundation for day and evening wear, for the day you should use one with SPF for added protection. At night you need a little extra coverage so a slightly heavier foundation will help with artificial light.
