Brazillian Wax

Brazillian waxing has been hailed as the beauty treatment of the past 20 years, it has been referenced numerous times in Sex And The City and is available on a High Street Salon near you.

It has been the subject of controversy with the New Jersey's Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling, which announced it was considering banning the procedure, which involves the removal of almost all hair in the genital region, after two women were hospitalised following the treatment.

Despite this the procedure is popular amongst the twenty and thirty somethings.

Why Is Brazilian Waxing So Popular?

Many just enjoy the clean feeling that comes with being hairless. Some who did it just to wear thongs or a small bikini, keep it up because "it just feels great"!

Actress Eva Longoria went so far as to claim it transformed her sex life, telling U.S. Cosmopolitan: 'Every woman should try a Brazilian wax once. And then the sex they have afterward will make them keep coming back.'
'
Even Victoria Beckham was quoted as saying 'I love Brazilians - they ought to be compulsory at 15, don't you think?

Some say that if you ever want to spice up your sex life, get a Brazilian wax and seductive perfume.

Brazilian Wax Procedure

Firstly hair has to be a certain length before it can successfully waxed. Hair needs to be a quarter-inch if it's fine, a half-inch if it's coarse

It starts with baby powder, talcum powder, or oil being spread over the area to be waxed. This prevents the hot wax from sticking to the skin.

Then hot wax is spread over the area from which hair is to be removed. The wax is allowed to harden briefly, then one edge of the wax strip is pulled up and used as a 'tab' to pull off the rest of the wax, usually in the direction opposite of hair growth. The waxer then works his or her way around the body systematically removing the hair from the genital area, buttocks, and anus.

Tweezers are used to remove any stray hairs that the waxing missed. Finally, the remaining pubic hair - "landing strip" - is either trimmed with scissors, or waxed off if the client requests it. The remaining hair may even be in a particular pattern (hearts are a popular option).

The pain involved with Brazilian wax can vary from mild to severe and can last from several seconds to minutes. Most who are willing to endure the procedure feel that the result is worth the discomfort. Furthermore, most feel that the procedure becomes less painful with subsequent treatments.

Products are also available to lessen the pain, such as topical anaesthetics or you can simply take two ibuprofen tablets about an hour before treatment.

Another down side... you might experience red bumps or ingrown hairs, caused when hairs grow curled under the skin. Avoid ingrown hairs with regular exfoliation and a scrub that contains salicylic or glycolic acid. Treat existing ingrown hairs with an acid-based solution. Good ones include Vaniqa (eflornithine), by prescription. Get rid of burns or rashes with a hydrocortisone cream, which soothese irritation

Optionally, a hair inhibitor can be used, which will slow the regrowth of hair and may stop regrowth altogether. The results generally last up to two months.
