Did you know your skin is the largest organ in your body, with a surface area of more than 2 square metres? That's pretty big. And ok, it doesn't look much like an organ in comparison to your heart or your liver.

But it's classed as an organ because it's made of absorbent tissue that ranges from being a mere 0.5mm width on your eyelids to a solid 4mm on your palms and feet. It's incredibly tough and hardwearing, and it's your body's first line of defence against infections and physical damage. It's also permeable and breathable, allowing you to lose excess heat by sweating when you're too hot, or conversely giving you goosebumps which, despite having no function in humans, allows apes and other mammals to keep warm or threaten predators.

When you think about it, skin is a pretty useful and  adaptable organ; yet it has a very complicated job, which we often take for granted. Thankfully, there are tons of simple ways in which we can make our skin's work easier. Follow the links to find out the best ways to cleanse, tone and protect that super organ.
